Doing Business at DHS with Kevin Boshears (June 4, 2009)

A very interesting and well attended event was held on June 4, 2009 with the Small business champion at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Mr. Kevin Boshears. Kevin is a Director in the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) who provided a detailed and animated presentation of how small business organizations can take advantage of the contracting opportunities and navigate the sprawling labyrinth of this very large department.

Social and Business Networking Event at Lima (April 23, 2009)

This networking event was a great success - over 100 convened at Lima Restaurant & Lounge in downtown DC.  As an event for entrepreneurs and young professionals many solid business connections were formed; nevertheless, the relaxed environment resulted in many strong social relationships between the amicable attendees.  This event was a great success primarily because of the diverse attendance - sharp entrepreneurs represented several professional backgrounds and a wide variety of nationalities.

 This has been a very busy first half of year for us.   We have hadan average of two events per month.  These events ranged from jobnetworking to get together of young professionals, executive briefingsand a rip roaring picnic where over 125 people participated.

Our charter membership increased from 18 to 27 members.  Our regular membership increased from 80 to 150.

The Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs and Professionals (OPEN) was formed in 1998 by a group of Pakistani-American entrepreneurs and corporate executives. The Washington DC chapter of OPEN is the most recent chapter of the organization, and like its counterparts it is actively involved in developing opportunities to help facilitate the growth of Pakistani-American entrepreneus.
